Service Description

The NADOM – Tactical Canine Safety & Handling (Law Enforcement / Military Working Dog Variant) course establishes the national safety and operational foundation for responders working around law enforcement K-9 units and Military Working Dogs (MWD) in high-risk, tactical, disaster, narcotics, fire, and contaminated environments. Law enforcement K-9 and MWD assets are force multipliers critical to public safety, counter-narcotics, explosives detection, search and rescue, and tactical operations. However, responders outside the K-9 community are routinely required to operate in close proximity to operational dogs without standardized national training in canine behavior, safe approach, emergency control, injury prevention, narcotics exposure protection, or handler-responder coordination. This course closes a critical national responder safety gap by establishing a standardized tactical safety credential for non-handler personnel who must interact with working dogs in operational environments. The NADOM Tactical Canine Safety & Handling course provides doctrine-based instruction in: • Canine operational behavior recognition • Safe tactical approach and positioning • Emergency restraint and control • Muzzle application under stress • Handler-responder transfer protocols • Narcotics and fentanyl exposure protection • PPE and contaminated-environment operations • Integration with ICS and tactical command This course is designed as a mandatory safety prerequisite for: • NADOM Canine Decontamination Operations • Law Enforcement K-9 support operations • MWD CBRN and disaster response missions • Tactical medical and rescue operations involving working dogs ***NADOM offers scalable Agency-Level and Statewide Implementation Packages to support adoption of the Tactical Canine Safety & Handling program as an operational standard across departments, regions, and state systems***
